REAL, FRUGAL, HEALTHY, and FUN!!!
Holy yumminess! My husband decided to make some fresh, homemade guacamole. He had bought tortilla chips to eat it with. Well, I wanted some, too, but I wasn’t down with the tortilla chips. I feel so much better when I eat whole foods. What a difference it makes! I had wanted to try making maple bacon sweet potato chips, so I thought I’d go for it and use those for my part of the guacamole. Can I just tell you, these are heavenly with guacamole!
1 sweet potato
1 Tbsp bacon
1 Tbsp maple syrup
1 tsp sea salt
Directions: Preheat oven to 300′ and place parchment paper or foil on a cookie sheet. In a plastic bag (I use an old grocer bag and hold it over the sink – just in case there’s a hole in it that I’m not aware of) put the sweet potato slices and the bacon fat.Shake thoroughly to ensure each sweet potato slice is coated with bacon fat. Add the maple syrup and continue to shake. Lay the slices out on the cookie sheet. Sprinkle with sea salt. Bake them about 30 minutes. Watch them closely. Flip them as needed. If their not quite done after 30 minutes, turn the oven off and let them sit in there a little longer.
*FYI – if you have the time, you can bake them at 200′ for about 2-1/2 hours for more even crisping*
