I love bars! They are so convenient when you are on the go. Unfortunately, the cheaper bars are glorified candy bars, and the nutritious bars can be quite pricey. I decided to try making my own. I’m very much inlove with dates these days. They are like nature’s caramel. I’ve seen some different recipes for homemade bars using dates and I wanted to attempt my own with ingredients I had on hand. I like simple recipes. This could not get any simpler!
Ingredients:
1 cup dates
3/4 cup dried apples
1/2 cup almonds
1/4tsp cinnamon
1/4tsp nutmeg
Directions: Throw everything into your high-speed blender. Puree for several minutes. How long you puree is really personal preference. I like my bars to have a little texture to them. I pureed mine til it was very broken down, but I could still recognize almond and apple pieces amongst the date puree. It’s not going to be a smooth cream. It should be a thick grimy mixture. Dump contents (I’d say pour, but it’s really too thick to pour – you may even need a spoon to scoop some out) into small pan or container. I poured mine into a sandwich-size airtight container. I stored it in the fridge overnight before cutting it into 4 bars. When I’m heading out, I wrap a bar in plastic wrap and throw it in my purse.
Dear Mireille, thank you for this recipe. 🙂

I hope you enjoy it! I find that there are few commercially-made bars that are truly nutritious, cost-effective, and none that taste as good as homemade.
